Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

This was our first visit to ABEM, and we were warmly welcomed by the staff from the very beginning. The establishment was visually pleasing, and the atmosphere was truly delightful. The restaurant gave the impression of visiting the home of the owner, which made the experience very special. We placed our order, and our food arrived promptly. The aroma, taste, and presentation were all very impressive. The dishes were well seasoned and exceptionally delicious. We appreciated their encouragement to enjoy the meal in a traditional manner; notably, no silverware was provided, which we found charming. We finished everything on our plates and are eager to return and try more dishes from their diverse menu.

We felt like we were back in Ethiopia! The lamb was tender, hot off the stove, and was a perfect match with the vegetarian platter. On the platter was chickpeas, greens, beets, cabbage, all of it seasoned and full of flavor. My husband who is not really a spicy food eater said great heat level on the lamb! The homemade tiramisu was delicious, nothing like the store brought tasting tiramisu we had at other restaurants. The lentil and chicken samosas were large and tasty. Staff was friendly and the customer service was excellent! Very clean restraurant and bathroom. This is the place to try and/or eat Ethiopian food!

This place is a gem! The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. My favorite order is the lamb tibs. I’ve had it plain and loved it. I’ve also had it with Awaze and it was delicious. It all depends on your spice preference. The veggie platter is equally delicious. I usually end up ordering both and taking leftovers home. I also love their sambusas. I’ve had all of them, and beef and lentil are my favorites. Try the Ethiopian spicy tea with your sambusas. The owners are so sweet and kind and the vibe of the restaurant is also nice. It’s definitely worth the drive to get there, so just do it if you live far! This is one of the best restaurants in Nashville.
