Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Highly recommend getting a reservation if you need to be seated timely or expect a 20-30 mins wait. We arrived with a reservation and were greeted courteously by the hosts and seated within a couple of mins. Our server was a very jovial person and just by his conduct one could tell he enjoys what he does. We were a group of five people and two of the members in our party had dietary restrictions since they practice Jainism. Our server understood the requirements and suggested items that met the criteria. We ended up ordering Smokey soya chaamp, Banarasi lassi, palak patta chaat (without onion/garlic), mahabir ki aloo tiki (without onion/garlic, banarasi kachori aloo sabzi (without onion/garlic) and kadhi-rice. Banarasi lassi was exceptionally good and so was Smokey soya chaamp. Hands down one of the best soya chaamps I have had in North America. Palak patta chaat an aloo tiki also exceeded the expectations. Banarasi kachori was a bit too spicy (hot) for us and upon asking we were told that this was the mildest version they have. So if you don’t handle spice well, maybe consider skipping this item. I did not have kadhi but my buddies told me that it was flavorful and a trip down the memory lane. We had a great time here. I would 100% recommend soya chaamp and banarasi lassi. Also if you plan on tipping, please tip in cash to ensure every $ goes to the support staff.

We went for lunch here. The food was amazing and as close to authentic Banaras flavors as you can get. We ordered aloo tikki chat, kachori and Banaras lassi to begin with. All of these were filled with authentic flavors. For main course, we did litti chokha and poori aloo. I didn't quite like litti chokha that much but poori aloo was awesome. For dessert we had jalebi and malaiyo which were amazing as well. The service was quick as well.

Dining at Banaras felt like a warm trip back home! Even though we aren’t actually from Banaras, the flavors were so nostalgic and reminded us of tastes we haven't experienced in years. We definitely let our eyes get bigger than our stomachs and ordered the Dahi Gola, Paneer Patta Chat, Kathal Biryani, and the famous Litti Chokha. We’d heard such great things about all of them that we just couldn't choose! Everything had a fun, unique twist while keeping that authentic taste we were craving. If you go, the Litti Chokha was our absolute personal favorite. We wrapped up the meal with the Rabdi Jalebi, which was a pleasant surprise. It was perfectly balanced, sweet, but not overwhelming like some places which definitely helped reduce the guilt! A quick tip: The tables are a little cozy for two adults and a kid, but I’m sure the staff would help accommodate if you need more room. We arrived around 7 PM and had plenty of space, but it filled up fast by the time we left. The place was also a bit too loud but nothing you would not expect from an Indian restaurant.
