Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Fresh, flavorful, and that ranch is everything! Blue Barn in Novato is one of those places I keep coming back to and I always end up ordering the Northern Fry with crispy tater tots and a side of their amazing ranch. You know that ranch that just hits the spot? This is it. Creamy, tangy, and totally addictive. The menu is packed with fresh, locally sourced options. You’ll find hearty salads like the Cobber and Waldorf with shrimp, creative sandwiches (the skirt steak is a favorite), burgers, tacos, and even comfort sides like tomato basil soup and seasonal greens. There’s something for everyone, including vegan and vegetarian choices. The outdoor seating is cozy and clean, with umbrellas for sunny days and a relaxed vibe that’s perfect for casual dining. It’s pet-friendly and kid-friendly, so expect a lively crowd during peak hours. Staff is friendly and quick, and the whole place has a laid-back, California-cool feel. If you’re in Novato and craving fresh ingredients with bold flavors, Blue Barn is a solid pick. Just don’t skip the ranch.

The food can be OK. But surprisingly the staff were abrupt and seemingly not happy to be there. Their attitude was that they were doing us a huge favor by putting our order together. Our online order took a long time and was given to us well after the scheduled ready time. Overall - given the price we paid, why go there? Really only one positive - I have to mention that the tater tots are nicely crunchy and tasty and can be considered a good value.

The food I got here was SO good. I was so indecisive on what to get since there was plenty of options, but ended up getting the Waldorf salad + shrimp, and the Truffle sandwich subbed with ciabatta bread. I had no high expectation since the last location I went to was disappointing, but everything I got was so good. The fruit in the salad was so tasty, not hard or tasteless as it usually goes, the shrimp was good, and the sandwich was amazing.
