Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Café Olympic is a cozy little corner café in Crystal Lake that feels like the kind of spot locals swear by—and judging by the crowd on a Sunday morning, they definitely do. It was packed when we arrived, and we waited about 20 minutes for a table, but it was worth it once the food hit the table. The breakfast plates were hearty and perfectly seasoned—the potatoes had that crispy-outside, fluffy-inside texture with just the right amount of spice, and the eggs were cooked spot-on. The omelet was loaded and flavorful, the chicken and waffles were crispy and golden, and the bacon was the perfect mix of chewy and crunchy. Everything tasted like it was made with care, not rushed despite the busy morning. It’s a smaller café, but it’s got that classic diner charm with friendly service and comforting food that hits the spot. If you’re in Crystal Lake and craving a solid breakfast, this place should definitely be on your list—just maybe get there early if it’s Sunday!

Must have good reviews from locals. Rundown, dirty, sticky, worn tables, torn and taped seat cushions. Bathroom on left was clean. No waiting area. You stand next to people trying to eat. Every time the door opens, you get blasted with winter. Waited to be greeted, no indication of seat yourself or wait...so awkward. Table was worn through, sat on blue duct taped, torn seat. Food took a long time to come out, compared to similar breakfast diners. Food was greasy. Ham in the meat lover's skillet was chunks of fat. Eggs on one of the orders was cold. Won't be returning.

The service here is fantastic, and the food does not disappoint. I tried the egg plate, which had perfectly cooked eggs and flavorful bacon. My husband enjoyed the breakfast sandwich, which was equally satisfying. We are already excited to return and explore more of the menu.
