Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

I went because of good reviews. It looks like their management and/or chef has changed. I ordered the most basic South Indian dish Medu Vada with Sambar. The sambar was nowhere near South Indian sambar. They had put cauliflower and other veggies. Yes, sambar is made so etines with drum sticks and opo squash but not cauliflowers. Also the sambar was very salty and they garnished it with cilantro! That's not sambar, it's like liquid pav bhaaji! The Medu Vada were most likely made a day earlier and then reheated in a microwave. I ate half a Vada out of the three they served and dumped the rest. Sorry, but I'm never going back. And those from India who have had sambar with Medu Vada or idli or dosa, please be aware that this place will disappoint. I will have to keep going to San Ramon and Dublin for South Indian food.

We live right next to this place. We are super fortunate for them to open up here. Although Concord has good Indian places but nothing South Indian and authentic. Abdul and Kumar, the staff were super super friendly and welcoming. We ordered Podi Idly, Mysore Dosas, Samosas and Rava Kesari. All tasted excellent except Kesari, to my liking it was not that great. However, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place to everyone!!! Oh, forgot to mention their chutneys and sambar are amazing and feels like homemade. UPDATE 1: They duly noted the feedback and sampled their Rava Kesari on my next visit. It was amazing!!!! I would say beats Saravana Bhavan’s Kesari. This time we ordered Chicken 65 and Onion Dosa - Both tasted really good. It’s hard to find restaurants that truly take customer feedback and improve! Love it and would recommend to anyone and keep coming back again and again. UPDATE 2: Biryani update!!!! Every Sunday they make Goat Dum Biryani and server by 4:30pm PST. We tried this biryani for the first time, hands down very delicious and finger licking good :) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. They have also improved up on their filter coffee - Truly like the fact that they keep listening to their customers and serve quality food. NOT A PAID REVIEW - honestly like their customer service and food. UPDATE 3: Parotta & Veg Kurma Another gem of a food. Tasted fresh and yummy! POST CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT UPDATE: We ordered a bunch of items (Gobhi 65, Chicken 65 Biryani, Chicken 555 and Mirchi Bhajji) as shown in pictures. Post management change - It has been pretty good so far, only gripe is order management is not that great.

I had a great experience at Chennai Dosa Express. The staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment I walked in, and they were happy to answer questions about both the regular and vegan options on the menu. I appreciated that they had a good variety of dishes for different diets. The food overall was enjoyable—especially the curries and the tikka masala, which were flavorful and well-prepared. The garlic naan was also really nice: warm, soft, and perfect for scooping up the sauces. My only minor disappointment was that the spice level was milder than I expected compared to other South Indian spots. I usually enjoy a little more heat, so it felt like something was missing there. Still, the quality of the dishes themselves made up for it. Overall, a solid place for both vegan and non-vegan diners, with great service and tasty food. I’d definitely visit again.
