Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

We came for lunch and it was terrific. My husband and I both ordered the chicken fried chicken- his sides were potato salad and fried okra. Mine were pinto beans and french fries. Everything was hot and delicious. Service was good and the prices very reasonable. The only disappointment is that they were out of the strawberry cake dessert we wanted to order. If we lived here we would visit frequently.

City Hall Cafe & Pie Bar has a comfortable, lived-in Huntsville vibe—warm booths, quirky Texas decor, and the kind of room that makes you want to slow down. The fried pickles were the highlight: hot, crisp, and easy to finish with ranch on the side. My burger ate dry, and the jalapeño cheddar bun I’d heard about never showed up in a way I could taste or recognize. Service felt distracted and mostly absent, and the sweet tea had that flat “been sitting” taste. Worth it if you want a cozy place to sit and snack, especially if you’re in the mood for fried pickles more than a standout burger.

Amazing dining experience here. The decor is fascinatingly done with all sorts of antiques & eclectic ways of using them. We ordered the Cheerleader Burger on Jalepeno Sourdough bread with Cheesy Broccoli rice casserole & the Fried Shrimp (huge! with a very light cornmeal breading) with Grilled Veggies & corn casserole sides. Both were very delicious!!!
