First time dining at Creole Soul. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Spoke with the owner/chef Hampton Isom. Very pleasant gentleman. I enjoyed the catfish with red beans and rice, jalapeño hush puppies and my Glenlivet 12. Everything was fresh, tasty and overall excellent.

Been here twice now, had a catfish & swamp (alligator, oyster, shrimp & catfish) baskets. We enjoyed our food both times, especially the catfish. Tasty sauces too! They have both inside & outside tables. We sat outside both times enjoying the sunshine (there is construction next door, but it didn’t bother us much). Glad we got this little place here in Des Moines!

Went there to support my friends band that was playing there. I ordered a Jamison Manhattan. It was one of the skimpiest pours I've seen but that wasn't an issue. When I asked the price $28!!! That's twice the price of the Space Needle let alone a Des Moines dive bar. Edit: Heard from one of the band members that the insane prices had been adjusted. I made a return visit and the prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was quaint and comfortable and the music was great. I plan to return.
