Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

We came during during their soft opening and got a bunch of stuff to try. They had a full house when we came in so food took a second to come out. Appetizers:I highly recommend the soup dumplings. I was slightly disappointed in the takoyaki, the takoyaki itself was pretty bland except for the sauce on top. I ordered the cheesy rangoons, my partner really enjoyed them and the waitress said it was the most ordered appetizer for the soft open. Entrees: The ramen tasted about the same (and priced the same) as other ramen places in Baton Rouge. Me and my partners ramen came out about 10-15 minutes apart (this happed to both the tables on either side of us too). There are a lot of different entree options even if you’re not a fan of ramen. Overall: The restaurant seemed like it was not expecting the amount of people that came for their soft opening (and as someone who frequents different restaurants’ soft opening I can say that it was really busy). Our sever was very attentive. Most of the issues I saw were from the kitchen mostly not timing the entrees for the whole table to come out at the same time. I plan to come back in about a month to see how the restaurant is after it gets situated a bit. I will edit my review when I come again!

Daruma is a fantastic new ramen bar in the heart of Mid-City! We stopped in for lunch and were really impressed. The soup dumplings were absolutely delicious, and the buta gyoza was just as good. The lunch portion of hibachi steak was nicely done, but the real star of the meal was the sesame chicken — outstanding flavor. The service was welcoming and friendly, which made the experience even better. Please be considerate as they’ve only been open for a week — this is clearly not their first rodeo, and they already know the small kinks they need to work out. Excited to see them continue to grow. Definitely worth a visit!

The new Daruma Ramen Bar on Gov’t Street started their soft opening recently, so we had to give it a try! Even thought our waitress was on her first day, she was attentive and did a great job! First off, the renovations are absolutely beautiful! I started out with the Triple Dumplings – three vegetable, three pork, and three shrimp steamed dumplings. Each one had a distinct flavor and they were all delicious. I got the Shrimp Tempura Ramen, and Natasha got the Spicy Beef Tendon Ramen. The portion sizes were large, the ramen was hearty, and definitely filling! For the first day open, the service was pretty good. A little snafu with a to go order at the end, but that will be worked out. We will definitely be back, and I highly recommend you give it a try! This is a wonderful addition to Mid-City!
