Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Moving my reviews over from Yelp. This was originally published on 4/20/18 but I've been back at least 50 times since. Definitely a favorite! I am a little dien cai dau about this place! I have mixed opinions on the flavor profile of Vietnamese food. I find some of their sauces a bit too pungent and the vinegars can be overwhelming as well. That said, I do enjoy a good Bahn Mi sandwich. I started with my standard question to the young lady at the counter: "what sells the best?" That led to a brief negotiation and the determination that I would be having steak Bao followed by a pork Bahn Mi for dinner. The bao were tender, slightly fluffy and chock-full of deliciousness! The steak was teetering on the edge of well-done but that wasn't a problem because the brightness of the slaw made up for any dryness in the meat. I ordered mine with the counterperson's recommended sweet chili sauce and that was a great choice. Those little things were a perfect blend of sweet, salty, sour, crunchy and chewy. There is absolutely zero chance I will ever walk out of this place without consuming an order of Bao on my visit. As I mentioned, I do enjoy a good Bahn Mi sandwich and what they served me was a great Bahn Mi sandwich. The pork was tender and juicy, the toppings had a light vinegar taste and the whole thing combined to be impressive. I'm one who likes cilantro and so many places skimp on it that I am frequently frustrated. Not the case at DD Mau! This is a place where you order at the counter, grab a seat and they bring you the whole order in to-go containers, all at the same time. That's where they lost a star. I think they need to come up with plates to serve on and reduce their waste stream associated with all of the excess packaging. Also, I would have preferred to receive the Bao at least a few minutes in front of the sandwich so that each could have been enjoyed at the peak of freshness. Shout out to Stephen W. and Emily for joining me with about an hour of notice to try a new place. Great hanging with you two!

A new place for me and my husband. We love Vietnamese food and so we checked it out and we were not disappointed. We tried our favorite vermicelli bowls and appetizers. Everything was perfectly fresh. The staff were super helpful and the restaurant had plenty of tables.

DD Mau is a cozy and casual spot that’s perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. It does get fairly busy during lunchtime, but I was still able to find a seat without much trouble. The restaurant has a fast-food style setup: you order and pay at the counter, receive a number, and the food is brought to your table. After finishing, customers are expected to clear their own table and place trays in the designated area, which keeps the space organized and efficient. There’s a self-service station with salt, pepper, sriracha, drinking water, cups, utensils, and napkins, which I found very convenient. Overall, it’s a well-organized, comfortable place with a relaxed atmosphere—great for a casual lunch or a quick pho fix. Would definitely come back!
