Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Tried the Nalli Gosh Biryani at Desi Chowrasta, and it was amazing. The mutton was tender and flavorful, and the biryani had a great Hyderabadi aroma with well-balanced spices. Portion size was good and overall tasted really satisfying. One suggestion: please add less gravy to the piece. The butter gravy was a bit too much and overpowered the natural flavor of the biryani. With a lighter touch on the gravy, it would be perfect. Still a great experience, and I’ll definitely come back!

I am excited for this to be fully open with the rooftop bar and everything! It's such a huge space. The restaurant is massive with lots of open space, indoor/outdoor seating, huge patio, roof top bar...and kudos to the owner for not overcrowding the space. The line to order was a little long but it moved quickly. Food was ready within a decent time as well. The service was fantastic. Staff was courteous and friendly. The food itself was great. Jalapeno chicken, biryani, Chowrastha curry were distinct in taste. The dosa and sambar tasted good too. My only nitpick is some chairs and tables were wobbly and some seating definitely felt older than the restaurant. Maybe if they have some more/better furniture, it'll definitely add to the charm of the restaurant Speaking of charm, this place has it. The decor, paintings on the wall, they all felt like...well...home!

⭐⭐⭐ Desi Chowrastha – Indian Eatery in Overland Park: A New Spot With Plenty of Potential Desi Chowrastha in Overland Park is a brand-new Indian eatery with a fun, inviting atmosphere and the potential to become a local favorite. The space is bright, lively, and spacious—great for groups, weekend gatherings, or a casual dinner out. I love the concept: a modern take on regional Indian street food and comfort dishes, all under one roof. But like many new restaurants, there are a few areas where improvements could make the experience even better. We tried several dishes, excited by the wide variety on the menu. Portions were generous, and everything arrived hot and fresh. What Worked Well • Large portions – Plenty to share. • Vibrant, fun atmosphere – Lots of energy, great for casual dining. • Friendly staff – Everyone was polite and helpful when we asked questions. • Great concept – A modern, street-style Indian eatery is a welcome addition to OP. The menu is massive—so much so that I found myself getting lost while reading it. While options are great, it can feel overwhelming, especially for guests new to Indian cuisine. A helpful improvement would be: • A “Today’s Specials” or “Chef’s Picks” section to guide guests. • Highlighting bestsellers on the menu for easier decision-making. As for the food, several dishes were very salty—much higher in sodium than expected. A lighter hand with seasoning or offering a mild/moderate spice level option would make a huge difference in enjoying the flavors. Desi Chowrastha is still new, and you can tell they’re building their rhythm. The atmosphere is wonderful, the team is friendly, and the concept is strong. With a little refinement—especially simplifying the ordering experience and adjusting seasoning—they could truly shine. Would I come back? Sure, especially after they settle in. I see the potential, and I’d love to try the dishes again once things are more balanced. If you enjoy bold flavors and big portions, Desi Chowrastha is worth a visit—just come hungry and curious, and hopefully they’ll continue growing into the great spot they’re meant to be. 🙂🙏🏻
