Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

I'll start with the good and work my wat down. I visited El Barrio for dinner with some friends. We enjoyed the service from our waiter as he was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and was a good vibe all around. The inside of El Barrio is also quite nice. Unfortunately, the food was not as good as the rest of the experience. My group ordered chips and guac for an appetizer which was enjoyed by many. The guac tasted fresh and the chips were crunchy. We also ordered cornbread with jalapeno butter. This dish was not liked by most of the group. We all said it tasted weird and like dirt/earthy. It wasn't due to the cilantro, we actually all enjoy cilantro. For entrees, we ordered the grilled chorizo meatloaf, the chicken enchiladas, the vegan tostada. chicken mole, al pastor tacos, and a quesadilla. All around the entrees were ok. No one was blown away by the food or had anything notable. Numerous people in the group said they would not come back.

We had a nice dinner in this Mexican Restaurant. The service was very friendly and attentive. They are considerate of food intolerances and provide excellent advice. The food was good. We had a great guacamole. The tacos el pastore were very tasty. Very pleasant atmosphere and great Margaritas.

The flavors of the foods we ordered were fantastic. Hubby had the trout and I had chicken enchiladas with both sauses. We also had a bowl of black bean dip and salsa with chips. They do charge for the these but will refill the salsa and it is not expensive. As in even the entrees are nicely priced and large. My two enchiladas (the smaller size-as you can order large or small) was plenty. And the grilled vegetables were perfect! Our server was helpful and attentive. My entree could have been warmer but it tasted so good I didn’t want to send it back to reheat. Margaritas good too. Some tables are a bit too close together and those same ones under too bright lighting. It is next to an arcade so kids do come. Parking was not easy but we arrived at 5:30 and got lucky. Would go again for sure. We split dessert which was tres leche and that was too sweet for me. Did not need the added caramel.
