Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

What a great discovery this place turned out to be. We noticed a crowd waiting right at opening time and decided to check it out, and the energy inside felt fun and inviting. The food absolutely lived up to the atmosphere. The Reuben egg roll and the mini Reubens were fantastic, full of flavor and perfectly done. I also tried the corned beef hash and a pickle plate, which was exactly what it promised and very satisfying. Definitely glad we stopped in.

Tried this bustling venue this past late March during the week of my eldest son's spring break and was pleasantly surprised with our very first experience. Had laid out plans as far picking a restaurant for lunch prior to our trip to the Shedd Aquarium so 11CD it was! This place is awesome and I love that retro feel upon walking thru the front door with oodles of candy to choose from in the front to the left of the main entrance. Maybe for the locals this is just another eatery but for us far north suburban ppl who only get around to wandering around downtown 1-2x/year, this place is a gem. The food overall is truly wonderful, started out with Grandma's Matzoh Ball soup and I went with the pastrami w/fries and their bottomless craft rootbeer. Wife had the turkey club which she liked and our boys just both went with chicken tenders. Down-to-earth friendly service servin' up delicious bites at still reasonable prices in an ultra clean dining space. Indeed we will return to this gem if ever visiting the Loop again. I certainly hope for years of continued boomin' business for the owner(s).

We picked this place because it was walkable from the Shedd Aquarium. The homemade root beer was delicious as were the Ruben sliders and fries. We tried the Matzah ball soup for the first time. The texture was not our thing. We also ordered the cheese and pastrami fries, yummy fries and meat but they were lost in a sea of not the best cheese. Next time I would try to order with no cheese and a drizzle of the thousand island they put on the ruben. That would be phenomenal! The place is adorable and the old school candy shop up front was so fun. The service was great. We will definitely go again.
