Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

This restaurant is sorely needed in Traverse City. It's really starting to come into its own. We had our finest meal there yet recently. My wife had chicken saag and I had a lamb dish that I can't remember the name of right now. The only quibble I had prior to this meal was that the heat level was not as I expected. I went for the hot this time and it was slightly too hot, but the medium was just a little too weak the time before. I think the perfect level for me would be somewhere in between. I'll see if they can accommodate me next time. India Garden could possibly be experimenting with the variety of different peoples tastes in heat levels for the area as well, trying to find the perfect balance. This is just a guess. The spices were right on. I was told by the server that there is a liquor license in the works. Bring on the Kingfisher beer! Well done India Garden!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at India Garden. It was delicious and the staff was friendly and prompt. We ordered the Heracles pakora, lamb vindaloo, veggie navrattan korma, and some garlic naan. The navrattan korma had so many different types of veggies- it was very tasty. And the naan was perhaps the best we’ve ever had. The only area for improvement would be that my partner and I both asked for medium spice and our dishes were very different spice levels.

My boyfriend and I are not from here but down south. We are trying new restaurants twice a day while here to see who has the best food. Gave this a try to see our thoughts as we never had Indian food. Service was great (got the food to go) helped us order etc. got the food to the hotel and it was still hot but it lacked flavor and salt. I am used to spice but it didn’t have that and my boyfriend loves his food well seasoned and we didn’t find it here unfortunately. It will be a pass for us. We ended up throwing away our food $50 dollars later
