Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Ishtar Restaurant is absolutely beautiful—elegant, well-decorated, and truly feels like a special dining experience. As an Iraqi, it genuinely made me happy to see our culture and cuisine represented in such a classy way. The food was good and well-presented, though some dishes were a bit on the bland side for my personal taste. The main reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. It’s very expensive, and the fact that tips start at $14 feels excessive and honestly a bit off-putting. That said, the atmosphere, service, and overall experience were still great. I’d definitely recommend it for a special occasion or for anyone wanting to experience Iraqi food in an upscale setting.

We visited while the restaurant was expanding, construction limited number of tables, but the lively room was full. Can’t wait to see the finished establishment. Our server was professional and experienced. It was hard to hear due to many people in a small area. Our table was closest to the door on a cold evening, so the door opening/closing was uncomfortable for the 7 people in our group. But, that will change in the future. All the foods I tried were well prepared and delicious. Large serving of naan, lentil soup, shawarma chicken was nicely spiced and tender. Our rice topped with slivers of carrot was interesting and enjoyable. The charming conclusion to our meal was a complimentary carafe of hot tea in little tea glasses. Ishtar was a wonderful change to our typical American diet, and very healthy. Highly recommend!

Great Iraqis cuisine Good portions , nice and clean place. Wonderful, friendly staff. Okra stew, white beans, salads, bread, grilled chicken and meat were outstanding. I will come back to try different items.
