Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Had the 2pc boneless chicken breast plate (smothered) with greens, black eye peas, and dressing. Thoroughly enjoyed the greens and chicken. The dressing was a bit blander than I expected, but a pinch of salt fixed it. The peas were decent. Nothing to write home about, but definitely serviceable. Overall, I would return. Side note: The pork chops (not pictured) are elite!

Looked up black owned restaurants and this treasure spot popped up. This is amazing legit, true blue soul food. My mother n law is the best to ever do it, but Ms Teresa Jackson is up there with her. The baked chicken is perfectly seasoned, greens, cornbread dressing, Mac n cheese and candied yams make the entire meal better than great. I felt I was at thanksgiving with family.

I flew in to Alabama this weekend as I was attending the homecoming of Alabama State University. I heard so much about this place and I was not leaving Alabama without eating there. It was very crowded in the small restaurant but when I received my food I saw why!! The food is delicious. I had catfish nuggets, Turkey wings, black eyed peas, dressing, Mac & cheese, pound cake and lemonade. Everything was good. The black eyed peas where okay but a little sweet for me. That didn't stop me from enjoying all my food. The pound cake will make you start dancing while eating. I bit into it & it taste just likey dear Grandmother used to make. I will definitely be back every time I visit Alabama.
