Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Amazing and affordable food ✓. Warm and welcoming staff ✓. Comfortable and family-friendly space ✓. My sister heard great things about Los Andanes, so we went there to celebrate her birthday. We had a fairly large group, including kids, and everyone loved the food and service. (Note: Make sure to call in advance for a larger group of 6+ so they can try to seat you together.) They give you free chips and fresh mango salsa, which I would have gladly paid for. Definitely order the horchata or cucumber-lime agua fresca to drink. The carne asada fries were a perfect appetizer—highly recommend. We probably should have split a bunch of dishes, because the portions were VERY generous. I had the quesabirria as my main and the filling was not only delicious, but packed, and the consumé was flavorful. At the end of the meal, our server surprised my sister with a birthday cake! Los Andanes went above and beyond to make sure she enjoyed her celebration. I’ve been to plenty of restaurants in Chicago for birthdays, but this one was memorable. Seriously, Los Andanes is the perfect spot for a casual meal or special occasion. Thank you, Los Andanes!!!

Omgggg this place was SO good. My friends and I wanted to support a Belmont Cragin small business and this did NOT disappoint. The carne asada tacos sent me straight to heaven and they were HUGE!!! So worth the money. The service was also really great! I can’t wait to go back.

I had a great feeling about this place based on the reviews. I was craving Mexican food in Wicker Park, and it didn’t disappoint. The restaurant was clean, and the owner was so kind. The food was fresh and made to order—the chips, salsa, and guacamole were delicious, and my friend’s steak tacos were packed with meat. The horchata was the best I’ve ever had! I’ll definitely return when I’m in the city. This family-owned business definitely deserves the attention. Must-try place!
