The best ramen I've had in the US! I grew up a stone's throw away from NYC where good ramen shops abound, but this place hands down serves the best . I will, no doubt, stop in every time I'm in the San Diego area. You should not leave San Diego without stopping in to get a bowl of ramen here! Delicious!

Menya Ultra in Mira Mesa didn’t just serve a great bowl of ramen it genuinely brought us back to living in Japan. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels authentic without trying too hard. It’s focused, no-nonsense, and centered on doing ramen the right way. The tonkotsu broth is the star. Rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful without being overwhelming, it tastes like it’s been simmered with care and patience. You can tell this isn’t rushed food. The noodles have that perfect bite firm, springy, and clearly chosen to match the broth instead of just filling the bowl. Every component feels intentional. The pork is tender and well-seasoned, not overly fatty, and it melts the way good chashu should. The soft-boiled egg is spot on, with a jammy center that adds depth instead of just decoration. Even the green onions and toppings feel balanced, enhancing the bowl rather than distracting from it. What really stands out is how consistent and respectful the food feels. This is ramen made by people who understand the culture behind it, not just the recipe. It reminded us of late nights in Japan, ducking into small ramen shops, ordering quickly, and being blown away by how much flavor could fit into one bowl. Service is fast & efficient and friendly, exactly what you want in a ramen spot. Menya Ultra isn’t trying to reinvent ramen they’re honoring it and that’s what makes it exceptional. If you’re looking for ramen that feels authentic, comforting, and genuinely memorable, this place delivers every time.

I don’t go to ramen restaurants often because the broth is too salty for my taste. This one is no exception. We ordered a kids meal, #3 Tonkotsu Chashu and spicy Miso. The noodle texture was good but the broth was salty and spicy (spicy level was ok but too salty). The kids meal came with chicken katsu and fries. We had to send them back in because they were cold and looked like have been sitting there for a while. They brought us fresh ones later after i asked. We waited for 20-30 min to get in and then waited just to get some drinking water to start. The check came pretty quickly though! Unfortunately this is not the Michelin restaurant standard that I expected.
