Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

My husband and I had dinner at Pepper Sprout last night, and it was truly one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. He ordered the duck, and I had the squash ravioli—which they kindly prepared without chicken for me. Every bite was exceptional. My Apple Old Fashioned was made perfectly—balanced, smooth, and thoughtfully crafted. While my husband had a beer (easy enough), the care taken with my cocktail really stood out. We’ve paid far more at other restaurants for mediocre drinks, so the value here was refreshing and appreciated. The entire staff worked seamlessly together and was incredibly attentive. If anyone noticed dishes on a table that needed clearing, they kindly took care of it on their way through. Our waitress was personable, kind, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely funny. She even wrapped my leftovers into the most adorable foil penguin, which made my night. She shared that the chef makes everything from scratch and everything with love—and you could absolutely taste that in every dish. The atmosphere is beautiful and intimate, making it the perfect place for a date night. For the level of food, service, and ambiance, the price was more than reasonable. Thank you to the chef and the entire staff for such a memorable and flawless dining experience. We can’t wait to return.

We went for Valentine's Day because this was a place we had on our list to try out, and wanted some fine dinning options. We are happy we went. We started off with the Baked Brie for an app. It came out hot and gooey! It was topped with crispy prosciutto and cranberry chutney. Pared so good with their warm Pita. Fiancé ordered the Grilled New Zealand Lamb Lollipops. They were so tender and delicious and served with smashed sweet potatoes. I got the Grilled Beef Tenderloin with a bason, molasses butter. It came with broccoli and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. The tenderloin was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. We had a surprise Quartet suddenly appear and sing a cute love song. We really had a great Valentine's Date.

I haven’t been to Dubuque in quite a few years and was pleasantly surprised to see that The Pepper Sprout is still there. I’ve eaten there in the past and it was wonderful and nothing has changed. We started with a drink at the bar and enjoyed some fun conversation with other guests and then enjoyed another well prepared meal under the supervision of Chef Kim. Her love and passion are very apparent with her restaurant. Our entrees included meatloaf for my wife which she enjoyed and I chose the pork porterhouse. The tenderloin side was nice and tender while the other side may have been a chewier than my liking. The bourbon sauce with my chop was amazing. All in all, go and enjoy a fine dining experience at The Pepper Sprout, you won’t be disappointed.
