This place has been my go to when I’m in South Bend for the past 5 years. The choices you have are all great and everything is vegan. No matter what you choose to eat you will love it. Seems like a family owed restaurant, not super big but cozy. The food is savory, tasty, and well portioned. The service is great and friendly. I had the basil seitan dish, the Singapore noodles without the curry sauce she made it with white sauce, and had the miso soup. If your in South Bend and craving healthier food I recommend Pinellia.

I recently visited Pinellia Asian Restaurant and had a mixed experience. The service was about a 3/5—I had to ask several times just to be helped, and no one really checked in to see if we needed anything else during the meal. That part was disappointing. On the positive side, the food was decent, and the scallion pancakes were definitely my favorite—crispy, flavorful, and the highlight of the meal. Overall, I’d come back for the food, but I hope the service improves to match the quality of the dishes.

Pinellia’s existence as an all-vegan restaurant in south bend, Indiana is praise-worthy enough on its own that i would be hard pressed to not give it five stars just to give it the props it deserves for being here in the first place. Aside from that, Pinellia is totally fine - in previous years it presented itself as more of a takeout only spot with a few token tables on the off chance anyone wanted to stay and eat, visiting today for the first time in two years found the place with a different interior than I remembered, maximizing the small dining room space they have for more dine in service. The portions are large and the prices are very inexpensive. I imagine that they have to compete primarily with other carry out Asian restaurants vs people looking specifically for vegan food - if you fall in the latter category, although south bend has many good restaurants with a few decent options, as far as all vegan fare goes, this is the only place in town. The entres are tasty, a little too filler vegetable heavy than they have to be and the pacing is often awkward, one meal will come out ten minutes before the last, but this is clearly a family owned and operated business and i think you would be ridiculous to not allow them a little grace for that. Regardless of what time you go there, i think the lunch menu offers a “greatest hits” of their extremely large menu, but almost every item is pictured in the restaurant or on the menu, if not on their website to help you decide. Final word - this is an essential stop for vegans in south bend, great affordable lunch.
