Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as mediterranean — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

This is a cozy, homey restaurant run by an older couple. The wife works the cashier, and the husband handles the cooking. He has a great sense of humor and you can really tell he’s passionate about his work. I had the $9 Lamb & Beef Gyro sandwich, and it was delicious and very reasonably priced—definitely satisfying. The restaurant is just a 1–2 minute walk from the U District station, and it seems popular with students. It’s a perfect spot for a small bite, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

I first walked into Samir's almost 50 years ago...late '77 or early '78. He had just opened, replacing an utterly forgettable sub sandwich shop that had deservedly closed. His menu hasn't changed much in fifty years, and rightly so. Samir makes some of the best falafel you can find in Seattle. His Baba Ghannouj and Fuul Mudammas are wonderful, and he has a lovely Rosewater Lemonade. Samir himself is a delight. Warm and outgoing, but humble. It is obvious that he loves what he does, and the people that he meets. He has survived the UDistrict's changes for 50 years. I haven't visited very often since I retired, but I think I need to go back again soon.

I would give this 10 stars if I could. Samir is incredibly friendly, and the gyro I ate was one of the best gyros I have ever had. Probably the best. Definitely by far, honestly. Seriously, if you ever have the chance... EAT HERE. And the …
