Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Awesome service and atmosphere. Our food came out quickly. Plenty of coffee refills. Definitely an iconic Midwestern family restaurant. My only complaint is that my scrambled eggs were a little runny. No substitutions. Also, prices are unreasonably high. $3.89 for a side of toast? Are you getting the whole loaf?

I took care out. Food was not good. I tried specials. Beef tips smells like it was burnt. The onion rings was burnt. My food was leaking in plastic bag which was not appitizing. They gave me wrong soup. Very disappointed. And it was not cheap. I wanted to return food back. But I live too far. For 47$ I could find a better food. But The hostess was really nice.

I am (was) a regular patron. I average probably 2 meals a week there year around. The staff knows me. I tip well. I consider a few of the servers as friends. The food is mediocre with the weirdest vegetable combinations anywhere-but no substitutions. The reason I am a regular is because the server staff is so friendly and the fact that the restaurant is open until 9p.m. EVERY DAY! Tonight I drive the 10 miles to get there. I arrive at 8:13 pm eager for supper. Lights are on. A few people are inside eating BUT THE DOORS ARE LOCKED 45 minutes before closing. I rattle the door and then walk in front of the window. A staff person notices me. From outside I pantomime:”what’s going on; why are the doors locked?!” Someone opens the door and says they are closing early because it’s cold out. Go figure! It’s 10 degrees in January in the Midwest! It’s warm inside the restaurant! Wasted trip! Advertised hours aren’t honored. Fine. Customer lost! I will go back north to Beloit and eat at Neil’s or the truck stop.
