I visited Sunrize Cafe 2/28/26 with a group of 10 people. We made reservations 3 days in advance, but w en then, we had to wait 18 minutes for our table. We were sitting in the same area, with the same waitress, but different tables, which was ok. What I didn't like, was that one part of our group seated at a different table, got their food about 10 minutes ahead of the rest of us. That is the only complaint I had. When the drinks and food came out, that made up for everything! I had a Peach Sidecar which will be my go to drink from now on! Others in the group ordered various margaritas. They all enjoyed them. Appetizers of frien green tomatoes, cheese sticks and salmon croquet were all good! For entrees, some ordered chicken and waffles. I thought the wings looked overcooked, but my friends said they were actually very good! But y'all take my word and grab that fish and grits platter! The fish was seasoned to perfection and crispy! The grits had some kind of creole sauce on it. It was fabulous! I will definitely be back!

I was in the area (3/7/26) and wanted to support a black owned business. After watching videos on social media, I was expecting more from this place. I was quite disappointed. On a positive note, the server, Trina, was pleasant and personable. The Sunrize mocktail drink was good. Atmosphere: The seats need to be repaired. When I first sat down the cushion felt funny. I moved over and realized it was damaged. The seating is not secure to the wall, so it kept moving forward if I was too close to the edge of the seat. The place could use a paint job too. Food Quality: ~The grits were textured, not creamy, ~The catfish had great flavor but the size of each fillet was equivalent to two small or medium catfish nuggets. ~The biscuit had hard as a brick edges, and an almost dry center. There was nothing honey or buttery about the biscuit either. ~The croquettes were just ok. ~The Sunrize mocktail was good. Cost: ~Pricey ~Almost $50 for food and an atmosphere that was not good is a bit much ~18% gratuity is added to each bill I only finished the catfish nuggets they serve as fillets, and the drink. The grits were inedible. I took the rest of the biscuit and croquette home to get my husband’s take on them. He said the croquette was ok, and the biscuit was as hard as a brick so it went in the trash. When I was asked about the food by a staff member, I had only tasted the grits, so I told the guy that they had texture. He said he’d let the cook know. That was the end of that. I’m glad this was a solo experience. I’m almost certain I won’t visit or recommend this restaurant. That’s not what I’d hoped for, but it is what it is.

Went for breakfast the staff was nice however a tall guy kept looking at us while eating idk maybe he was waiting for us to finish.. not sure why the restaurant was not crowded at all. I ordered the Tbone steak meal, asked for medium well steak was not cooked medium way to pink for me... it was seasoned ok. I also ordered the Gouda grits which were soupy and not flavorful at all. The potato's were ok and the eggs I wasn't too fond of either.. probably because the food was not hot when we received it which was weird because again, they were not crowded at all and bring out cold food will certainly ruin the meal. The honey butter biscuit appears homemade and I did like that, even though it was not hot either. The waitress did offer to take the steak back to cook longer at that point I was turned off and it was too late.
