Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

"Tall Trees Cafe is the best sandwich restaurant I have ever been to, hands down. I cannot tell you how many times I have visited here over the past year. When you walk into the place, you feel such a warm sense of community. It quickly became something that I would plan my weekends or my appointments around. ""Haircut on a Tuesday at 4? Tall Trees isn't open, gotta pick another day!"" ""Hey, do you want to grab a bite to eat in Ferndale this weekend? Yeah, sure, as long as it's at Tall Trees, they've got a curry chicken salad sandwich I NEED to try."" There are a few Classic sammiches that are always on the menu: spicy mortadella (calabrian chile, buttermilk herb salad, sesame semolina roll), clong (mi turkey, provolone, herb mayo, roasted tomato spread, greens, pickled shallot, focaccia), a vegeterian situation, and a PB & Honey for the kids. Those are always solid options and must trys, but the rotating specials that Mike (the hefe of this joint) and the team come up with have brought many tears to my eyes. Some favorites such as: mufuletta (it all started here!), what murdah (an italian), the ham of god (an egg salad sando), big tuna ii (the best tuna sammich you can find), curried chicken salad sando (it had pickled golden raisins), meatball sub (enough said). Aside from the sandwiches, the sides are always creative and delicious too. The drink cooler and the shelf next to it showcase a lot of local goods for sale as well as fun merch. "

Looovvveed the Turkey sandwich. My only wish is that there was an option to make it spicy with some peppers. Bread was so soft with still some crunch on the outside. Also got the iced cranberry matcha and it was perfectly sweet the matcha was blended perfectly.

Very tasty sandwiches and salads. The cucumber salad was insanely good! Thanks for carrying gluten free bread too!
