Yummy food, nice service, and great atmosphere. Only one thing about the food is that last time, when I wanted the platillos/carne-asada, I said to not have guacamole in it, but I had them, (pretty sure that it was an accident) but I still enjoyed the guacamole! I recommend you go to the restaurant, if you are looking for yummy food, and nice service. Also, the Mexican music hypes me up, and sometimes they even do old Mexican films!

This place used to be Taqueria San Jose, but is now Taqueria El Refugio, or El Ref to us! We absolutely love this place. Since moving to Escalon just over a year ago, we have had El Ref almost EVERY Wednesday night! It’s the only place we eat out weekly and we always get the same thing! It’s AMAZING! We get the fajitas steak, shrimp, and chicken. Extra grilled jalapeños and grilled onions with a side of like 7 different salsas! Owners are awesome and always working. Food is delicious. Place is clean. They used to door dash but now you gotta stop in. It’s worth it. We make it happen. See you there Wednesdays! Their super burritos are HUGE! Seems to be very popular too, but I’m a fajitas kinda guy.

I got the barria tacos plate, it was quite good but I think the consummé was a little watered down and could have been more flavorful, otherwise I'd give 5 stars.
