I have eaten here several times and was happy with the food, the service, everything. But was SADLY disappointed today. It was my birthday and I was spending gifted birthday money. All I can say is, if you hired a new cook - FIRE THEM - the food was disgusting. I ordered a chile rellano, rice and beans. I don't even have the words to describe how bad it was. The rice had NO flavor, the chile was soggy and burnt on the bottom, the salsa tasted like straight tomato sauce out of a can. No self-respecting Mexican would eat this. The beans were good, probably leftover from another cook.

Was hungry and stopped in for lunch. We were seated quickly and ordered drinks. Our drinks arrived quickly, and we ordered upon their arrival. The server brought chips and salsa with our beverages. The chips were fresh as if made that day. Salsa was not as thick as I preferred, but the flavor was good. The salsa was mild with no heat at all. Ordered queso for my chips. The queso wasn't as thick as I like but was flavorful. Our food arrived quickly and was very good. I poured cheese over my burrito and devoured it. I used the restroom, and it was clean. I feel the bathroom could use remodeling. Floor was half concrete and half vct. The toilet appeared to leak when I flushed it. The service was good and so was the food. I was pleased and I'll return. Our meal was $28 for 2 people.

This place was excellent. As residents of OP, we aren't familiar with good restaurants in the area and open on Sundays. We were driving home from out of town and detoured to check this place out. I found it authentic, flavorful, fairly priced and a pleasing safe environment. The food came out promptly, would come again. ------ While we were enjoying our meal, an employee of the city of Independence came by to perform a check. While I can't speak to the legitimacy of the need for a check, I can speak to the utter lack of professionalism displayed by the city employee. We were sitting closely enough to hear the restaurant employee ask why they came by so often. He was not disrespectful. The whole restaurant was close enough to hear what the city of Independence's employee thought about that question. He got very loud and belligerent, accusing the restaurant employee of being argumentative and defensive when in fact he was the one who became that way when asked the question. There are ways of performing your duty, which certainly may have been a normal schedule or maybe on feedback, while also being respectful and understanding that the person may be wondering if it's too often. The restaurant employee shared that it was disrupting their operations when they repeatedly visit during busy times- I think there were better ways to let the restaurant employee feel heard while demonstrating that the check is either routine or necessary. Through all of this, the restaurant employee remained composed and courteous while the employee of the City of Independence was yelling and aggressive. This happened today 11/23/2025 at 2:30pm, should it help to identify the City employee or event. I am not familiar with the process of putting in complaints with the city of Independence so I'll put it here and anyone can direct me if desired or this can be used as evidence. I wish this restaurant and those who run it well.
