Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

I have lived in the area for many years and always wondered about this place that I never seemed to see be open. They are only open for lunch time on weekdays, so how could a business survive like that? Amazing sandwiches, that’s how. I visited this place for the first time recently and was shocked by the bustling business on the inside. At 12:30 I was easily the 20th person in line and the majority of the many tables were full! It’s a large space, though it doesn’t look like it from the outside - with plenty of indoor seating. If you want to sit outside, you can sit outside the taproom in the front! The menu is large and has toasted, spicy, and cold sandwiches in addition to pizzas and salads! The sandwich I had was incredible in taste, size, price, and structural integrity. The sandwich bun it comes on is strong enough to hold it all together and most importantly the contents do not slide out of the sandwich when you pick it up! I got the San Antonio cheesesteak which was absolutely amazing and I would definitely get again. My friend got the habanero turnkey which was also great and had a lot of flavor in addition to the heat, which was not overpowering. The sandwich was a great size - not too big - and only around 9$. I can’t wait to return to this place and continue to try their large menu of sandwiches because I am a sandwich lover and this place has a fantastic selection.

It’s a hole-in-the-wall that I dream about regularly! I get their turkey chupacabra and it has a Serrano sauce on it that is so incredible and spicy. The bread is out of this world. They have chili pepper ratings on their menu for the different levels of spice, and they of course have sandwiches that have no spice. They also have pizza and a few other options that I haven’t tried because I love what I get so much! Being from Houston, it isn’t often enough! Their desserts are also amazing. I got their chocolate cake and it was perfect. My only problem with this place is there isn’t one in Houston!

I got the San Antonio cheese steak sandwich, it was small and unimpressive. I paid $10 and it came with no no side and no drink. The venue is an interesting spot but nothing beautiful to look at. A spot to visit to check off the list but my sandwich was nothing special but the name. I would go back try something else on the menu with a date just for the experience of visiting a San Antonio landmark in the beautiful Kind Williams district, hopefully my next choice will be better.
