Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Even though we made reservations, The Rustler was not ready for us when we arrived. It took about 15 minutes for our table to be ready. The dinning room looked very questionable and we wondered if we should leave. There were mismatched chairs and folding tables being used. The decor looked old, used, worn out, and in need of cleaning. I could not believe how many men were wearing baseball caps indoors! The menu was far more expensive than what was listed online. The server was not knowledgeable about beers. Plates were chipped. I got a filet, which actually was very tasty and prepared well. The baked potato was wrapped in aluminum foil and had been cut through the foil. Potato was undercooked and I was concerned about eating aluminum foil. Mushrooms were fresh and tasty. The salad was fine but for the price they were asking, they don't need to be using bagged shredded cheese! My date got the steak salad but the meat to vegetables ratio was way off. Too much steak. Overall this place is too expensive for the atmosphere, service, and quality of food. Best way to some up The Rustler is "overpriced low-end rundown steakhouse."

I’m a Rustler baby!! The Rustler is a hidden gem in Meridian. Off the beaten path is an understatement… We happened upon this place because it made a list of the Top Ten Steak houses in Mississippi! It earned that ranking. Set in an industrial park setting on the outskirts of an older neighborhood, the Rustler is a shining beacon. Literally. The building and parking lot are lit. The Lounge entrance is on the left and the dining room is in the right. You are greeted with a smile and seated swiftly. Nice table clothes, place settings and folded, embroidered napkins welcome you to sit in a leather, wheeled chair. Usual apps and drinks you’d expect at a steak house. The onion rings are house-made and a favorite. The seared tuna sort of missed the mark this night for me. The tuna appeared to be a pre-packed vacuumed sealed tuna steak and the sear did not leave the outside crusty and the interior was cold. The wontons were a bit tough and not as crispy as they should have been. I did not complain. The waitstaff noticed the cat like nibbles and that it was largely uneaten and removed it from the bill without any requests for such accommodation. Excellent service by Kat! The salads were fresh greens, the most explosively delicious cherry tomatoes and great 1,000 island with real bacon pieces. The steaks were excellent. Prime filet, cooked perfectly medium, seasoned perfectly, tender and delicious. The baked potatoes were plump, fluffy and again excellent. The last side, the Brussels sprouts were the star of the side items. Sautéed, seasoned and tender…these were better than they had any right to be. Good wines and reasonably priced by the glass. The dessert was a locally made turtle cheesecake. It was rich, decadent, chocolatey, caramelly with nuts. A few bites are enough. Excellent service. Kat was very attentive, intuitive and friendly. We were checked on by several employees and made to feel welcome. Overall excellent experience and will return again!!

Overall, the experience was great. The staff were awesome, both front and back of the house. The steak was cooked a perfect medium, and almost melted in my mouth. The squash was so freaking good. Some of the best i have ever had. I will say the asparagus was a little dry/tough, it was tough to eat and i ended up leaving it on the plate. The dining experience was nice, service was perfectly paced and even the hostess assisted with service and ensured my dining experience was great. As i was dining alone, they sat me in a quiet place out of the way which was nice. It’s a perfect place for quiet diner or a special occasion. It is a little tough to park and it’s back near the industrial area but don’t let that impact your trip, it’s worth it. I was asked to leave a review no matter my opinion which i appreciated. Would definitely go back if i am back in the area again.
