Our meal at Vernona was a wonderful experience. The service was terrific. The food was to die for! The atmosphere was comfortable, not pretentious, and friendly. The food First off, all of the dishes were prepared with authentic Hungarian ingredients where possible. My first course was a cup of goulash. This is a pork and potato soup with a lot of paprika. When served, our server/owner asked if I wanted some hot paprika for the soup. The hot paprika added huge flavor without being oppressive. I had cabbage rolls. These are unique. They vary from Polish cabbage rolls because the cabbage wrap is made with fermented cabbage. It is essentially sauerkraut. The rolls are served on a bed of paprika infused sauerkraut. My wife ordered mushroom ragu served on homemade noodles (essentially spaetzle). The ragu was very earthy and tasty. The noodles were perfectly tender and plentiful. Homemade bread was served with each dish. The bread was amazing! It has a beautifully soft , yeasty crumb and very sturdy crust. We shared a vanilla custard topped with homemade whipped cream and pastry crumbs. The desert was not overly sweet...it was just right. All of that said, I would go to Vernona for the bread alone! The fact that all the food was delicious and reasonably priced was a bonus. The bread can be ordered a day ahead and is certainly worth the trip. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!

The Hungarian restaurant in Bradenton, Vernona, is absolutely amazing! We especially loved the chicken paprikash — it was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The desserts were delicious, the service was outstanding, and the guitarist created such a warm and lively atmosphere. Highly recommended! The only thing I would suggest is using softer yellow lighting to create a warmer and cozier atmosphere. The fluorescent lights give a bit of a hospital feel, which doesn’t match the otherwise wonderful ambiance of the restaurant.

My fiance and I have our weekly date brunch and wanted to try something new. Came across Vernona Gourmet, and what an AMAZING experience. We never had Hungarian food so we asked for suggestions and everything was so delicious. We will be back again to try more new dishes! 10/10 😀
