Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

Excellence from beginning to end. I really noticed and appreciated the teamwork environment from the staff. Joe, our server, was knowledgeable, had great energy and conversation. I loved being able to see the chefs prepare the food. You could see they were focused, but the vibe was cool, calm and collected. Every dish I had was so delicious. The fried green tomatoes were seasoned well, the turnip green chow chow with salmon delish, the short rib was plastic fork tender, mac and cheese was creamy and balanced, cornbread delish and I loved the greens. Cocktails were solid. Bread pudding is one of my favorites and the apple cinnamon flavor was intense in the best way. That peanut butter cup pie needs to stay on the menu year round. So good. Shout out to whoever picked the music because zero skips. Yes, I'll be back.

𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱; 𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲! Virtue is a gem, and our recent dinner there with a group of five was a masterclass in hospitality. I had intended to book a table six weeks in advance, but upon arrival, realized my reservation hadn't actually gone through (no email, no charge—purely my oversight). Despite the restaurant being packed, the hostess saw my predicament and incredibly managed to bail me out by finding us a table. That kind of grace under pressure is rare and set the tone for a perfect evening. The experience only got better from there: - The Service: Our server, Raj, was A-class. He provided expert advice on the menu and pairings that made a real difference in our meal. - The Food: From the cocktails and appetizers to the entrées and desserts, everything was wonderful. It’s soulful, refined, and lives up to every bit of its reputation. - The Vibe: It was the perfect backdrop for great conversation among friends. So, if you’re looking for a spot in Hyde Park that treats you like family while serving world-class cuisine, this is it. We are very grateful for the gesture that saved our night. Highly recommend!

Visited for the first time this past Sunday. Which is currently Restaurant Week in Chicago. We didn’t like the options on the Restaurant Week menu, so we ordered off the regular menu. I started off with fried green tomatoes; it didn’t disappoint. My date had the gizzards, but she sent it back because she didn’t like the broth and asked for the fried green tomatoes instead. The biscuits with pimento cheese were decent. I just didn’t taste the honey on the biscuits. My cocktail of choice was the Peach Tree Fizz; it was great. Now, the entree, I was a bit disappointed. The Blackened Catfish with rice lacked flavor. The cook on the fish was perfect, but under-seasoned. My date ordered the short rib with spinach and mashed potatoes. She liked it.
