Diners overwhelmingly call out the signature dish as the must-order. The vibe reads as vegan restaurant — service is consistently described as warm and unhurried. Common gotcha: queues form at peak times — go early or late.

Excerpts

WoodenGrill is hands-down the best table in town. The vibe is chill, but the kitchen is playing at a different level—easily the most innovative and curious menu in Birmingham. We started with an Old Fashioned that was bold, strong, and had a killer spicy kick. Then the food: the Burrata on bread pudding is a mandatory 'must-try.' That combination of carrot, old balsamic, and a hint of red berry in the dressing is a sweet and sour dream. Even the Winter Green salad was dressed to absolute perfection. The entrees were a total savory triumph. The seared scallops were cooked to a T, and my wife’s beet ravioli was remarkably inventive. My spicy lamb rigatoni was a standout—the lamb was incredibly tender. We capped it all off with the chocolate custard and apple crisp. Huge props to the chefs and the host team; your passion and attention to detail are world-class. My only tiny suggestion would be for the waitstaff to lean into that same level of passion to match the energy coming out of the kitchen. This place deserves Michelin recognition ASAP. We’re already planning our return for the burgers and pizza. Seriously, hold me back, I’d eat here every day."

The food was ok. The servers were kind to comp an app and send out a few on the house when our food was running behind and that was greatly appreciated! The restaurant had a fun vibe! Park in the public lot near the restaurant bc you can enter through the back of the restaurant and it’s very convenient!

From the moment you walk in, the vibe is immaculate. Warm, inviting, and classy with just enough edge it honestly gave me that real Atlanta energy right here in Birmingham. Our hostess Jess was an absolute sweetheart so welcoming and patient while we waited for our table. We grabbed a few drinks at the bar, and Carlos (our bartender) did not miss. Cocktails were strong, balanced, and beautifully made. Once we sat down, Jake took over as our server, and he was so cool, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Now let’s talk about the food phenomenal. We started with the pepperoni pizza with peppers and honey and Jamaican Jerk cauliflower, both packed with flavor. The seasoned peel and eat shrimp were a perfect touch of heat and buttery goodness. But the star of the night was the Wooden City Surf and Turf with lobster dumplings tender, delicate, and so flavorful it deserves its own spotlight. The playlist? Perfect. It matched the atmosphere and set the tone for the night chill, yet elevated. Overall, a 10/10 experience from start to finish. Whether you’re out for dinner, drinks, or date night Wooden City will not disappoint.
